Bioluminescence Reporter ("the App") helps users report and discover bioluminescence sightings. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

Location Data
- We collect your approximate location to show nearby sightings and send relevant notifications
- Location is only accessed when you use the app
Anonymous Identifier
- We use anonymous authentication—no email, name, or personal information is required
- A random identifier is assigned to your device
Push Notification Token
- If you enable notifications, we store a device token to send alerts about nearby sightings
Sighting Reports
- When you report a sighting, we store the coordinates and timestamp
How We Use Your Data
- Display bioluminescence sightings within 50 miles of your location
- Send push notifications when new sightings are reported nearby
- Improve the app experience
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which complies with industry-standard security practices. Data is stored in the United States.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Data is only used within the app to provide its core functionality.
Data Retention
- Sighting reports are retained indefinitely to build a historical record
- User location data is updated each time you open the app and overwrites previous data
- You can request deletion of your data by contacting us
Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your Rights
You may:
- Disable location access in your device settings
- Disable push notifications in your device settings
- Request deletion of your data by contacting us
